đ„Â ENS (and Eric) are on Fire!
If youâve spent any time on crypto twitter over the last week you will have noticed that the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) has been the shill-of-the-week for the Ethereum community - and we took full advantage of it! Not only did we register our own ENS names (eric.eth and sassal.eth) but we also registered ismoney.eth and opened it up so that anyone could register their own subdomain on it (for example, anthony.ismoney.eth). Eric then took this one step further and registered ethmojis.eth and submitted it as his hack for ETHWaterloo. He also opened it up so anyone can register a subdomain on it such as đ„.ethmojis.eth (sorry guys, Eric already premined that one). And finally, we set up the EthHub website on IPFS so you can now access it by going to ethhub.eth.link or ethhub.eth/ if you have Metamask installed.
While Eric was at ETHWaterloo he recorded a 2 part special episode for the Into the Ether podcast - be sure not to miss it when it goes live this week. He also put together a thread on the ETHWaterloo hackthon winners here.
Eric was also on the POV Crypto Podcast this week alongside Ryan Sean Adams to discuss Ethereum and have a lively debate with the two hosts David Hoffman and Christian Keroles.
Oh and we also launched âETH is Moneyâ beanies on our merch shop. Go buy one (using ETH) here!
Okay that was a big update - have a great week everyone!
-Â Anthony

đŠÂ Tencent to Build Virtual Bank After Hong Kong Regulator Approves License
Chinese internet giant Tencent is set to open a blockchain-based virtual bank after the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) approved a new license.
Speaking at the World Blockchain Summit in Wuzhen, China on Friday, Tencent blockchain chief Yige Cai said the companyâs virtual bank received the SFCâs green-light. Moving forward, the company will assemble a team to support the blockchain-based banking platform, according to Chinese media site Sina Finance.
âHong Kongâs new regulations and supervision on digital assets transactions validates the importance of blockchain technology and digital assets, which is good news for the whole industry,â Cai said in his speech at the summit.
The SFC has granted virtual bank licences to 12 entities so far. On the list is Infinium Limited, a joint venture between Tencent, Industrial and Commerce Bank of China (ICBC) and other two Hong Kong-based institutional investors.
đ Founder of Bitmain Rival Held by Police Over Possible IP Dispute
Zuoxing Yang, founder and CEO of Shenzhen-based bitcoin miner maker MicroBT, is being held by local police to assist an investigation.
The investigation is likely over allegations of intellectual property infringement by the firm related to the technology of its rival Beijing-based crypto mining giant Bitmain, according to one source close to MicroBT with knowledge of the matter. The news was first reported by Chinese crypto news source BlockBeats.
The source confirmed that Yang was taken away by local police at the end of October â after the unexpected return to Bitmain of Jihan Wu, co-founder of the firm. Wu seized control of Bitmain last week by ousting the companyâs other co-founder and then-chairman Micree Zhan.
Yang was formerly processor design director at Bitmain, responsible for developing the firmâs flagship AntMiner S7 and S9 models around 2016. However, he left the company and raised over $20 million to found MicroBT â which produces the WhatsMiner range of mining devices â after discussions with Zhan and Wu for stock options fell through.
âïžÂ FBI Director: Cryptocurrency Is âSignificant Issueâ for Law Enforcement
Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray says cryptocurrency is a âsignificant issueâ that is likely to become a âbigger and biggerâ problem for the law enforcement agency.
Speaking in front of the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday, Wray responded to questions from U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) about cryptocurrency, law enforcement and terrorist deterrence, saying:
âWe are looking at it from an investigative perspective, including tools that we have to follow the money even in this new world that weâre living in.â
Wray supported Romneyâs line of questioning concerning terrorist financing, saying that U.S. adversaries are becoming âmore facile with technology and particular various types of technology that anonymize their efforts.â
